There is a woman on tv telling me that she lost 54lbs by eating tacos from a fast food joint.
You have got to be kidding me. This is awesome! I have been looking for a way to eat tacos and lose weight for years. And now, without having to sweat, I can lose the weight I have been slowly gaining since birth.
If only I could have these magic tacos delivered to my couch, I will be set to make good on my new years resolution to be tricked by stupid advertising campaigns.
Is anyone buying this?
At the bottom of this commercials are some words that I was too busy eating a snickers to read. I did see the words, "1280 Calories/Day." I can only assume from this that, in addition to eating tacos, this shrinking woman also cut her calorie intake to 1280 per day.
Eating tacos was one thing, but cutting calories? Does this mean that I will have to count to 1,280 every day. I don't have time for that. I barely have time to eat all these tacos.
It turns out that saying, "I lost 54lbs by cutting calories to 1280/day and eating tacos," is the same as saying, "I lost 54lbs by cutting calories to 1280/day and slapping kittens." If you eat less, you tend to weigh less.
Should weight loss be this complicated? Yes. Yes it should.
Otherwise, we couldn't have magazines, books, websites, and advertising campaigns devoted to shedding pounds. If all these media simply said, "Eat less. Exercise more." there would be no money involved. It also wouldn't be as appealing.
Which sounds better to you?
You: How could I lose some weight, Doc?
Doctor: Eat less and exercise more.
or...
You: How could I lose some weight, Doc?
Crazy man on street dressed like doctor: Eat some tacos!!! I have a batmobile!!
Fact: It is more fun to eat tacos than to not eat tacos.
Fact: eating less food is not that fun.
Nevertheless, it is not complicated. If you want to live a more healthy life, eat less and excercise more.
Live by the following acronym: K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Sasquatch)
The same principle can apply to the Christian life. Instead of trying to decifyfer the end times and figure out where God wants you to go to college, try simply loving people and loving God.
Each day, improve your relationships. Stop being focused on the future and enjoy this moment with God.

I've always loved the saying, "God never said living a Christian life would be easy. He just said that you won't be alone and that the rewards will exceed the trouble."
You just made me laugh out loud. Excellent point as well.
