I have some awesome advice for all who are planning to see the new Twilight movie. This tip will lift you up in the eyes of your friends, and you will finally be seen as the intellectual person you have been pretending to be all these years whether you are a teenager, adult, or a dude who loves a good cry.
Work the following phrase into your conversation, "The book was way better than the movie!" If you say this phrase exactly, remembering to include the exclamation mark, all within earshot will think you are much smarter than you actually are. Also, try wearing prescriptions strength glasses whether you need them or not.
Example Conversation:
Person 1: "Hi!"
You: "Hello, Person 1. How are you?"
Person 1: "I am doing well. And you?"
You: "The book was better than the movie!"
Person 1: "What? When did you start wearing glasses?"
See, how easy was that? Now your friends consider you an intelligent person, and you did not have to say or do anything intelligent.
Actually, the smartest people I know do not say stuff like this. I follow Michael Hyatt, CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing and dog owner, on Twitter, and he recently posted several tweets about watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Not once did he mention the books superiority to the movie. I may be wrong, but I am sure he understands the difference between the two art forms.
Comparing a book to a movie is like comparing a painting to a sculpture. I know many musicians and not one would follow up a beautiful jazz performance by saying, "The sheet music was better than the song. He actually left out my favorite part of the sheet music." My musician friends recognize the differences between the two works of art. They know that while they may be similar and connected, they are different.
I say all that to say this: we should praise God for blessing us with so many unique forms of art. While some have abused this blessing, the blessing itself should not be negated by their abuse.
God created drama, poetry, stories, songs, and sermons. He blessed us with gardening, painting, sculpting, and skywriting. Whatever your art, it is a blessing from God.
Therefore, roll around in it. Enjoy it. Thank God for it. Experience it. Let it wash over you.
But never make the mistake of saying that one blessing is definitely better than the other. You may enjoy one more than you enjoy the other, and that is ok. However, comparing the two is unnecessary, and in my opinion, unhealthy.
We'll see when your book becomes a movie. Ha!
ReplyDeleteYes, so many blessings everyday, all day long.
My 3 year old grandson says everyday, no matter what the weather or what else is going on..."What a beautiful day!" He is so right!! And he follows up by saying, "God made the beautiful day!" I don't want him to ever lose that knowledge that everyday is beautiful because God is in it!
